posted 25 Mar 2017, 03:46 by Padraig Brennan

Coaching sessions for boys and girls born between 2007 and 2012 commence on Monday March 27th.  Parents are asked to have children in the new pitch beside the National School before 6:30pm. The session will finish by 7:30pm.

THE CLUB IS HOLDING A REGISTRATION NIGHT IN THE SCHOOL HALL FROM 7:30 - 9PM  ON SUNDAY 26TH MARCH WHERE PARENTS CAN PAY THEIR CHILDS MEMBERSHIP (€30 PER CHILD SUBJECT TO LIMIT OF €80 PER FAMILY) PLEASE BRING COMPLETED MEMBERSHIP FORM AND PAYMENT ON THE NIGHT.

DUE TO ONGOING WORK ON OUR NEW DRESSING ROOMS ONLY TEMPORARY TOILET FACILITIES WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR THE FIRST NUMBER OF WEEKS. PARENTS ARE ALSO ASKED TO CLOSELY SUPERVISE CHILDREN DUE TO THE ONGOING CONSTRUCTION TAKING PLACE ON THE SITE.

·     Children taking part must be under 10 this year but born before 31/12/2012 (must be 5 in 2017).

       ·       Please fill in membership form & return in with membership fee at Registration nght - €30 per child subject to a limit of €80 per family.

       ·       All children must have their helmet and their own hurl (both marked with child’s name).

  • Under no circumstances will children be allowed to participate without a helmet. When purchasing helmets please ensure they are IS355 approved to meet safety regulations.

·          A child’s hurl should be the correct size (no higher that hip height).

We have large numbers participating in our coaching sessions and in order for us to organise the sessions in a safe and orderly way we would ask you to note and cooperate with us as follows:

  • Parents of children who are starting this year are asked to stay for the hour. If a child leaves the group during the session it is up to their parent to take responsibility as the coaches must remain with the group.
  • For safety reasons younger children who are not participating should be with parents at all times and should never be allowed to wander onto the pitch area or be around the coaching groups.
  • Once the session finishes children should return immediately their parents.
  • We would ask you to be extra careful driving into and out of the pitch each evening and to park safely. Always be aware of the fact that children may be nearby. Also make sure your child is aware of being safe in the car parking area.
  • It may happen on occasion that a match is fixed for the pitch for 7:30p.m. On these nights it is important for parents to be extra vigilant regarding children and match traffic. Keep an eye on the Kilkenny People or www.kilkennygaa.ie each week to see if a match is fixed for the pitch.

NB: Please note that on the first night of coaching there will be a brief meeting of parents of new beginners at 6:45pm.

  • On a night of bad weather it is up to parents to decide whether to bring your child to the pitch or not. When possible we circulate a text if coaching has to be cancelled.
  • The Club Code of Behaviour must be followed at all times.  Coaches should be obeyed at all times and no rough play or bad language will be tolerated.  This Code of Behaviour is available to view on our Club website www.youngirelands.gaa.ie
  • For children to improve their skills it is important that they play with a hurl and ball at home.
