5 point defeat for Junior A's

Young Irelands 3-14 Emeralds 5-13

Urlingford, 7th April 2012

The Juniors picked up their first defeat of their league campaign after making the long trip to Urlingford. Goals were the difference in this decider with the emeralds scoring 3 goals in 7 minutes in the second half.

16 year old JP Treacy opened the scoring for Gowran with a pointed free. Emeralds replied in kind but DJ Carey added a second immediately afterwards.Emeralds took over scoring 1-3 to Gowran's one point, again from Treacy. Treacy added a second from play but moments later a long free found its way straight to the Ireland's net. Treacy did reply with a point from a free in the 20th minute but that was Gowran's last score of the half with Emeralds adding two more points to leave the scores 0-5 to 2-6 at the break. 

Again the first score of the half came from a JP Treacy free but Emeralds had scored two before Tom Drennan, who had been moved to centre forward, scored a second for Gowran. Then came the goals. The first came in the 39th minute leaving Sean Kehoe with no chance in the goal. Treacy did manage to score two points, one from a free, before emeralds next goal in the 45th minute. They slotted another quick point before adding their third goal of the half in the 48th minute. Within a minute Tom Drennan had replied with a goal but Emeralds scored three more points while Gowran added a Treacy free. Gowran did control the final ten minutes of the game with Emeralds failing to score and Irelands scoring 2-4, coming from JP Treacy (0-2, 1f), Alan Roche (1-1), Tom Drennan (1-0) and Willie Bolger (0-1). However it wasn't enough.
