Procedural Steps in the Event of an Injury
To avail of payment for incurred medical costs under the GAA Insurance Scheme resulting from an injury sustained at an official club training session or official club match the following steps must be strictly adhered to;
1. CONTACT MANAGER In the event of sustaining an injury either at an official club training session or official club match you must inform the manager immediately who will record it on the training/match log. If the injury is sustained during an official club match the manager will also inform the referee so that the incident will be recorded in the referees match report. In the event of an injury only becoming apparent shortly after an official club training session or official club match you must inform the manager as soon as possible who will make a record of it. Please note that if an injury is not reported to the Medical Liaison Officer within 2 weeks of occurrence it will NOT be considered under the scheme.
2. VISIT DOCTOR If after you attend the doctor you have been advised by the doctor that you will need further medical treatment it is essential to make contact with the clubs Medical Liaison Officer PRIOR to seeking further medical treatment.
3. CONSULT CLUBS MEDICAL INSURANCE LIAISON OFFICER The clubs Medical Liaison Officer will take you through the necessary steps to avail of payment under the GAA insurance scheme for any impending medical costs. Please note that a Physiotherapist referral by your doctor is NOT covered under the GAA Insurance Scheme. Physiotherapy is ONLY covered under the scheme following a surgical procedure and is an integral part of recovery as recommended by the surgeon. IF THE ABOVE PROCEDURAL STEPS ARE NOT STRICTLY ADHERED TO YOUR MEDICAL EXPENSES WILL NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE SCHEME.
